Best Restaurants in West Maui
From oceanfront classics to innovative kitchens rebuilding stronger—West Maui's spirit remains delicious
Written by a Local Food Expert
Jade KawanuiThe spirit of West Maui remains strong. Watching beloved restaurants reopen after the Lahaina fires has been inspiring, and the food is as incredible as ever.
Star Noodle
This spot built its reputation on fresh house-made noodles and Asian-inspired share plates. After the fires, they reopened in a stunning new oceanfront location that makes the whole experience even better.
The garlic noodles are legendary. They're simple but somehow addictive. The steamed pork buns are pillowy soft with perfectly seasoned pork. The hoisin glazed ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender. The Pad Thai is as good as any I've had.
Pro Tip: Go with a group and order family-style. The menu is extensive, and you'll want to try everything. The portions are generous, so pace yourself.
Hula Grill
This is the quintessential Kaanapali beachfront experience at Whalers Village. You can dine in the open-air restaurant or go for the more casual barefoot bar, where you literally have your toes in the sand while you eat.
The macadamia nut crusted Mahi-Mahi is a signature dish. The Ahi Poke Tacos are fresh and flavorful. The whole menu showcases Hawaiian ingredients prepared with care.
Pro Tip: Time your visit for the daily live Hawaiian music and hula show in the evening. The atmosphere is lively without being touristy. The Barefoot Bar is perfect for lunch or sunset cocktails without needing a reservation.
Duke's Beach House
Named after legendary surfer and Olympian Duke Kahanamoku, this North Kaanapali Beach spot brings classic Hawaiian hospitality with sweeping ocean views.
The Baked Duke's Fish is their signature preparation. The Coconut Shrimp are crispy and sweet. But you absolutely must save room for the Hula Pie. It's a massive slice of macadamia nut ice cream on a cookie crust, topped with hot fudge and whipped cream. It's big enough to share, but you might not want to.
Pro Tip: Duke's is one of the best spots on the west side for breakfast with an ocean view. The morning light on the water is gorgeous, and the breakfast menu is solid.
The Gazebo
This tiny breakfast and lunch spot is tucked away at Napili Shores resort, right on the point of Napili Bay. The views are epic, and the food lives up to the hype.
The macadamia nut pancakes with coconut syrup are what people line up for. They're fluffy, nutty, and drenched in that sweet coconut syrup. The fried rice plate is another local favorite and massive enough to share.
Pro Tip: There is always a line. Get there before they open at seven thirty in the morning, or prepare to wait. Bring a book, enjoy the view, and know that it's absolutely worth the patience. This is a Maui rite of passage.
Leilani's on the Beach
Another Whalers Village staple with fantastic ocean views, especially from the upper deck. They're known for island-style meats and fresh local seafood delivered daily.
The fish tacos are excellent. The prime rib is cooked perfectly. And yes, you can get another slice of that famous Hula Pie here too.
Pro Tip: The upstairs dining room works well for a nicer dinner with table service. The downstairs Beachside Grill is more casual and perfect for watching the sunset with a cocktail.
Roy's Kā'anapali
Chef Roy Yamaguchi is a Hawaiian culinary icon, and his restaurant showcases his signature Hawaiian-Japanese fusion cuisine. It's an upscale option for a special meal.
The classic Blackened Island Ahi helped define Hawaii Regional Cuisine. It's cooked perfectly with a spicy crust and tender center. Don't skip the Melting Hot Chocolate Soufflé for dessert. It takes a few minutes to prepare, so order it when you order your entrees.
Pro Tip: Check for their prix-fixe "Aloha Hour" menu, which offers great value for a three-course meal.
Sea House Restaurant
This "old Hawaiian" gem sits right on the sands of Napili Bay at the Napili Kai Beach Resort. The ambiance is unbeatable.
Their happy hour is one of the best on the island. Come for the discounted pupu and cocktails. The food is good, but the real star is the view of Napili Bay with Molokai in the distance. At sunset, it's absolutely stunning. This is one of my favorite places to unwind after a long day.
