The food scene in West Maui is incredible, with everything from five-star oceanfront dining to humble food trucks serving up some of the best grinds (food) you'll ever taste. Here's how to eat your way through the west side.
Unforgettable Oceanfront Dining
There's nothing quite like watching a Maui sunset with a fantastic meal and a tropical cocktail in hand. These are some of my favorite spots for dinner with a view.
18. Merriman's Kapalua
A true pioneer of Hawaiʻi Regional Cuisine, Chef Peter Merriman's flagship restaurant offers an impeccable farm-to-table menu. Its location on a rocky point overlooking Kapalua Bay provides one of the most spectacular sunset views on the island.
19. Mala Ocean Tavern
A beloved Lahaina institution that thankfully survived and has reopened. The tables are so close to the water you can feel the ocean spray. It's famous for fresh, beautifully prepared seafood and a vibrant, fun atmosphere.
20. Duke's Beach House
Located at the Honua Kai Resort, Duke's offers a casual, family-friendly vibe right on the sand of North Ka'anapali Beach. It's a great spot for lunch, dinner, or just grabbing a drink at the Barefoot Bar.
21. Sea House Restaurant
An iconic restaurant at Napili Kai Beach Resort, the Sea House has been serving guests for decades. The open-air dining room looks directly out onto beautiful Napili Bay, making it a perfect spot for a romantic dinner or a memorable breakfast.
Best Local Eats & Food Trucks
To eat like a local, you have to visit the food trucks. It's an affordable and delicious way to sample the diverse flavors of the islands while directly supporting small, family-run businesses.
22. Honokowai Food Truck Park
This is a fantastic food truck hub located on Lower Honoapiʻilani Highway across from the Times Supermarket. You'll find a great variety of options here. My personal favorite is Hooked for their incredibly fresh fish tacos and coconut shrimp.
23. Lahaina Area Trucks
Many Lahaina food trucks have found new, permanent spots. Ono Tacos, near the Lahaina Cannery Mall, serves amazing and authentic tacos (it's cash only!). For incredible plant-based options, check out Earth Aloha Eats. You can also find a collection of trucks near the Lahaina Industrial area and up by Maui Preparatory Academy in Napili.
Jade's Local Tip: Don't be afraid to try something new! Grabbing a plate lunch from a food truck and eating it at a nearby beach park is the ultimate Maui experience. My go-to is the fresh fish from Hooked at the Honokowai park—it never disappoints.
Must-Visit Happy Hours ("Pau Hana")
Pau Hana means "finished with work," and it's our favorite time of day to relax with friends, enjoy some discounted drinks and pupus (appetizers), and watch the sun go down.
24. Monkeypod Kitchen (Ka'anapali)
This is probably the most famous happy hour on Maui. From 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM daily, they offer half-price on most appetizers and fantastic deals on their craft cocktails, including their legendary Mai Tai topped with honey-lilikoʻi foam.
25. Sea House Restaurant (Napili)
From 2:00 PM to 4:45 PM, the Sea House offers incredible value on their delicious pupus with one of the best beachfront views on the entire island.
26. Mala Ocean Tavern (Lahaina)
Enjoy live music and drink specials right on the water from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM daily. The vibe is always fantastic.
27. Maui Brewing Co. (Ka'anapali)
If you love craft beer, this is your spot. From 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, they offer great prices on their lineup of locally brewed beers, from the Bikini Blonde Lager to the Big Swell IPA.
