Regional Food and Town Maps

Getting real feel for each island area requires exploring key towns and trying local food. I believe in eating fresh, local ingredients. Kauai has amazing culinary scenes from roadside fruit stands to world-class restaurants.

North Shore Food Scene

The North Shore defines my home base. Our food scene focuses on fresh and casual dining.

For morning coffee and avocado toast, Hanalei Bread Company can't be beat. Best poke bowl after surfing sessions comes from Hanalei Poke. Celebrating special occasions calls for Bar Acuda's amazing tapas. Classic Mai Tais and live music happen at Tahiti Nui, a true North Shore institution. You can't leave without trying taro donuts from Holey Grail.

Hanalei Town Points of Interest:

Stroll through shops and galleries in this charming surf town. Relax on iconic crescent-shaped Hanalei Bay. Visit historic Daniel K. Inouye Kīlauea Point Lighthouse for incredible views and bird watching opportunities.

South Shore Dining

South Shore visits mean embracing sunny vibes and resort atmosphere.

For incredible sunset dinners, The Beach House restaurant provides unbeatable oceanfront dining. More casual options include Da Crack, serving amazing Mexican food from tiny window space. It's achieved local legend status. Best ice cream comes from original Lappert's location in Hanapepe.

Poipu and Koloa Highlights:

Spend days at family-friendly Poipu Beach Park. Walk through historic Old Kōloa Town showcasing plantation-era architecture. Watch ocean spray at Spouting Horn blowhole. Browse shops at Poipu Shopping Village.

East and West Side Local Favorites

Kapa'a offers incredible food truck variety. Porky's gained fame for sausage-stuffed grilled cheese sandwiches. In Lihue, experience Hamura Saimin, a no-frills spot serving the island's best saimin noodle soup for decades.

West Side stops include Ishihara Market in Waimea for incredibly fresh poke. This local market provides authentic island shopping experience.

Regional Points of Interest:

East Side features Kapa'a Town shops and restaurants plus government seat Lihue. West Side offers historic Waimea Town where Captain Cook landed and artistic Hanapepe Town, known for swinging bridge and weekly art nights.
