About Me

The sound of slack-key guitar drifting on the trade winds, the rhythmic crash of waves against ancient lava rock, the sweet scent of plumeria mixing with salt air—these are the sensory threads that weave through my daily life here on Kauaʻi, and they're the same elements I try to bring into every story I share.

Aloha, friends. I'm Kalani Miller, and if you're reading this, chances are you're either planning an adventure on our beautiful Garden Isle or you're one of those wonderful souls who simply loves learning about the rich tapestry of Hawaiian culture and history. Either way, welcome to my little corner of the internet.

Growing Up with Stories

I was born and raised in Hanalei, where the mountains meet the sea in a way that still takes my breath away every single day. My papa was one of those old-school storytellers who could make even a trip to the store sound like an epic adventure. Afternoons at our house meant sitting under the ironwood trees while he spun tales of paniolo cattle drives across the island's remote valleys, plantation-era jazz bands that brought rhythm to the sugar fields, and the great ʻukulele boom of the 1920s that put Hawaiian music on the world map.

Those stories didn't just entertain me—they planted seeds. While other kids were collecting baseball cards, I was collecting mele (songs) and family histories, fishing techniques passed down through generations, and the kind of local knowledge that only comes from truly listening to your kūpuna (elders).

These days, I share my life with my wife Alana (who's an elementary teacher and infinitely more patient with homework struggles than I am), and our four amazing keiki: Keahi (13), Keola (11), Kai (8), and Kiele (5). They're my best critics, my most honest audience, and the reason I'm passionate about finding activities that keep families connected without everyone staring at screens.
