The 5-Day Romantic Escape

This itinerary is perfect for a shorter trip or for couples who want to minimize driving and maximize relaxation by staying on one side of the island. This example is based on the sunny South Shore.

Day 1: Arrival in Paradise

Arrive at Lihue Airport (LIH), pick up your rental car, and drive the scenic 30 minutes to Poipu. Check into your resort, like the intimate Ko'a Kea or the sprawling Grand Hyatt. Spend the afternoon unwinding by the adults-only pool, taking your first dip in the ocean, and settling into "island time." For dinner, enjoy a casual toes-in-the-sand meal at Lava Lava Beach Club.

Day 2: Canyons and Coastlines

Drive west to explore the majestic Waimea Canyon. Stop at the main lookouts for breathtaking photos. Days 1-3: South Shore Sunshine (Poipu)

Day 1:

Arrive, check into your Poipu resort. Relax and acclimate. Dinner at Merriman's Fish House.

Day 2:

Explore Waimea Canyon in the morning. In the afternoon, take a surf lesson or simply relax at Poipu Beach.

Day 3:

Experience the Nā Pali Coast via a morning snorkel and sail trip or an unforgettable helicopter tour. Enjoy a romantic dinner at Tidepools.

Day 4: Transition to the North Shore

Check out of your South Shore hotel. On your way north, stop in Kapa'a to kayak the Wailua River to Secret Falls. Grab lunch at a food truck. A day dedicated to the end of the road. Use your pre-booked passes for Hāʻena State Park to hike the first two miles of the Kalalau Trail to Hanakapi'ai Beach. Afterward, cool off and snorkel at the beautiful Ke'e Beach or Tunnels Beach.

Day 6:

Explore the charming town of Hanalei. Walk out on the historic pier, browse the boutiques, and relax on the crescent-shaped beach of Hanalei Bay. In the afternoon, visit the Kilauea Lighthouse for stunning views and birdwatching. Splurge on dinner at Bar Acuda (if you secured a reservation!).

Day 7:

A final day of relaxation. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, find a secluded spot at Secret Beach, or indulge in a beachside couples massage at Hanalei Day Spa before heading to the airport for your evening flight.

The 10-Day Ultimate Immersion

For the couple who wants to see it all and still have plenty of time to unwind, this itinerary allows for a deep dive into every corner of the island.

Days 1-4: South & West Side Exploration (Poipu Base)

Follow the first three days of the 7-day itinerary (Waimea Canyon, Nā Pali Coast, Poipu beaches). On Day 4, add a cultural experience like the Lūʻau Kalamaku at Kilohana Plantation for an authentic evening of food and entertainment.

Day 5: East Side Adventures & Transition

Check out and head north. Spend the day on the East Side. Hike the Sleeping Giant Trail for incredible panoramic views, then cool off with a swim at Lydgate Beach Park. Check into your North Shore accommodation.

Days 6-9: Deep Dive into the North Shore (Hanalei/Princeville Base)

Follow the North Shore portion of the 7-day itinerary (Hāʻena State Park, Hanalei town, Kilauea Lighthouse). With the extra time, add:
