A Taste of Kauai
The Island's Most Romantic Restaurants & Dining Experiences
Written by a Local Expert
Kalani MillerA huge part of any honeymoon is sharing wonderful meals together. Kauai's dining scene is a fantastic blend of upscale resort dining, pioneering farm-to-table restaurants, and casual gems. For the most sought-after romantic spots, making reservations is not just a suggestion—it's a critical part of your planning process.
Planning Tip: For top-tier restaurants like The Beach House or Bar Acuda, your dining plans should be one of the first things you book after your flights and hotel. A missed opportunity for a sunset dinner at a dream location can be a real honeymoon disappointment, and it's entirely avoidable with a little foresight.
Dinner with a Sunset View (Reservations Essential!)
🌅 The Beach House (South Shore)
This is, without a doubt, the most famous restaurant on Kauai for sunset dining. Its location on the water in Poipu is simply unbeatable. The menu features exquisite Pacific Rim cuisine, and the entire restaurant is oriented to provide panoramic oceanfront views.
Insider Tip: To secure a table during the sunset hour, you must make reservations weeks, and often months, in advance. You can book directly on their website or by calling. If you can't get a dinner reservation, try for a late afternoon spot at the bar, which still offers incredible views.
🍹 RumFire Poipu Beach (South Shore)
Located at the Sheraton Kauai Resort, RumFire is a modern, vibrant spot with stunning 180-degree ocean views from every seat. It's a fantastic place to watch the sunset while enjoying creative cocktails—they boast Kauai's most extensive rum selection—and a menu of locally sourced cuisine with a global influence.
Intimate & Upscale Dining
🏮 Tidepools (South Shore)
For a truly unique and memorable dining experience, Tidepools at the Grand Hyatt Kauai is unmatched. You'll dine in private, thatched-roof bungalows that appear to float above a tranquil koi-filled lagoon, surrounded by tiki torches and waterfalls. The ambiance is exceptionally romantic, making it a perfect spot for a special honeymoon dinner.
🍷 Bar Acuda (North Shore)
Tucked away in the charming town of Hanalei, this cozy tapas-style wine bar is a favorite among locals and visiting foodies. Chef Jim Moffat focuses on fresh, regional ingredients, creating small plates that are perfect for sharing.
Insider Tip: Reservations here are notoriously difficult to get. They become available on the Resy platform exactly 30 days in advance at 3:00 PM Hawaii Standard Time and are often fully booked within minutes. Set an alarm if you want to dine here!
🍣 Red Salt (South Shore)
The signature restaurant at the intimate Ko'a Kea Resort, Red Salt offers inventive, upscale Hawaiian cuisine in a sleek and modern setting. It's known for its fresh seafood, including a fantastic sushi bar, and is a wonderful choice for a sophisticated and romantic evening.
