Leilani AkoWest Side Shopping: Hanapepe, Kauai's Art Capital
The West Side of Kauai has a character all its own—it feels a little wilder, a bit more rooted in its plantation past. At its heart is Hanapepe, "Kauai's Biggest Little Town." This is the undisputed art capital of the island, a place where creativity flourishes in the historic, preserved buildings that line its main street.
When you visit Hanapepe Art Night, park near the town park and plan to walk the whole strip. Talk to the artists—they love to share their stories! And whatever you do, don't leave without walking across the Hanapepe Swinging Bridge. It's a rite of passage and always an adventure.
Exploring "Kauai's Biggest Little Town"
Hanapepe's charm lies in its authenticity. The town's historic buildings have been so perfectly preserved that they served as the inspiration and model for the setting of Disney's animated classic, "Lilo and Stitch." During the day, it's a quiet town perfect for a slow-paced stroll through its many unique shops and galleries.

If you can, plan your visit to the West Side for a Friday evening. It's a fantastic experience where locals and visitors come together to enjoy the creative spirit of the community.
